"Untitled #1" (a.k.a Lanterns in the Night) (Feb 2017)

15.5" x 11"

Watercolor, acrylic, various pens (Sakura, Le Pen, Microron, etc), cut and layered paper cloud, found jewelry pieces, coffee grinds, can top and soda can tabs on used coffee filters on cardboard panels.

Running parallel to the piece titled “Change...”, this piece depicts a scene as if through a telescope, a view through the encroaching darkness - a clear representation of the impending takeover of primal urges inhabited by fiery eyed figures, bordered by blue-faced  child-like figures with expressions of anguish, distress and horror. The scene below is lit up by lanterns carried by figures in the elaborate clouds above, as if in a dream illuminating a scene of recognizable figures and entities in reaction to this takeover.

The scene represents in miniature the conflict at the time of convergence between form and representation (focused thought and meaning) and the wild disruptive, amorphous and impetuous urges, driven by frustration one carries in the background of their thoughts.
